Community Impact Project — "EnABLE" Phase 1 “Bridging the Gap” Participant Recruitment

 

The "EnABLE" Community Impact Project aims to raise awareness among Girl Guides members and the general public about the visually impaired in Hong Kong. Through various activities, participants will gain an understanding of the challenges faced by the visually impaired, as well as the existing support provided by different sectors of society.  Phase 1 “Bridging the Gap” participant recruitment is opening for Girl Guide members.

Activity:

  1. Experiential Library of Visually Impaired Persons
  • Instructors from the Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired will explain what it means to be visually impaired, as well as the current government and organisational support policies and measures for caregivers
  • Visually impaired persons and their caregivers will share their life experiences and transformations, allowing participants to understand the importance of social inclusion and develop the right values, while also gaining insights into their daily lives and engaging in discussions

 

  1. Sharing Session with Special Needs Scouts
  • Mr. Kwok Tze-hang, HQC (Extension Scout Activities) of Scout Association of Hong Kong, will share the daily experiences of interacting with special needs scouts, the challenges encountered during activities, and the situations encountered when interacting with other scout members

 

  1. Visual Impairment Experience Workshop
  • Led by instructors from the Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired, participants will learn to use various assistive devices for the visually impaired, understand the concept of braille, and explore how current technology can facilitate the daily lives and learning of the visually impaired, as well as learn communication skills with the visually impaired
  • Dr. Ilex Lam, the Founder and Managing Partner of iEnterprise, will share his perspectives on employing persons with disabilities

  1. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and priority will be given to those who can attend full day until full capacity is reached.
  2. The registration result will be notified through email.
  3. If Hong Kong Observatory issued a Tropical Cyclone Strong Wind Signal No. 3 or above, an Amber, Red or Black Rainstorm Warning; or the Education Bureau announces suspension of classes two hours before the start of the activity on the day, the activity will be postponed or cancelled.
