New! HKGGA X EPD Clean Recycling Programme

Let's become a "Clean Recycling Ambassador"!

In response to the increasingly severe environmental challenges, the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association is committed to promoting sustainable development with a proactive attitude and action. To enhance the awareness and practice of environmental protection among the Girl Guides, the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association is collaborating with Environmental Protection Department is now launching the "Clean Recycling Programme." This two-year programme aims to raise the awareness and capability of Girl Guides in clean recycling, encouraging them to start from themselves by practicing source reduction and recycling.

Through this programme, the Girl Guides will learn how to correctly classify recyclable items and participate in community recycling activities to further spread environmental knowledge. The programme not only emphasizes the practice of recycling but also encourages girl guides to promote environmental concepts to their friends and family, working together to build a cleaner and healthier living environment.

The programme will be divided into 2 parts:

  1. Unit Level - The programme will be promoted to various units to raise awareness and encourage them to take on the challenges of the second part of the tasks.

  2. Individual Level - In addition to practicing environmental protection themselves, it is hoped that the Girl Guides will share environmental information with their family and friends and promote it within the community.

Part One

After the unit makes the following environmental commitments and completes the tasks, appointed Guiders can apply for a "Greedy Ghost" badge and a "Saving Baby" (original color) badge for each member:

  • Commit to practicing source reduction, clean recycling, and participating in the activities of the second part
  • Download the "GREEN$" Mobile Application
  • Take and share a photo of recycling at a residential area or "GREEN@COMMUNITY"

Part Two

This part is called the "Recycling Challenge", which includes 4 tasks that the Girl Guides can complete at their own pace. The tasks are as follows:

Mission 1: Record the amount of recyclables at any "GREEN@COMMUNITY" or using mobile applications like "Carbon Wallet", with a personal cumulative submission of 2 kilograms or more of recyclables. You need to record the relevant weight and take a photo during one submission of recyclables.

  • You can take a photo to record the weight of the recyclables or capture a screenshot of the recycling record from mobile applications such as "GREEN$" or "Carbon Wallet".
  • Take a photo while wearing the Girl Guide outdoor uniform when submitting recyclables. You are welcome to invite fellow unit members to complete the task together.
  • For Girl Guides who are abroad, you should take a photo wearing or showing your Promise Badge/ World Badge when submitting recyclables.

Mission 2: Sign a Personal Environmental Pledge and promote the importance of clean recycling and source reduction to 5 family members and friends, filling in their names in the Google form.

Mission 3: Promote and practice clean recycling or source reduction at school, sharing your methods, results, and taking photos to document the actions.

  • Promotional actions may include inviting classmates to participate in related activities like "We-recycle@School", encouraging classmates to collectively collect 2 kilograms of recyclables, gathering recyclables generated at home or school (recyclables including paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, etc., and recording the recycling amounts and waste reduction results before and after a month).

Mission 4: Participate in 2 environmental activities organized by the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association or the community (e.g., beach cleaning activities, environmental upcycling workshops, etc.) and provide proof (such as certificates or photos).

Remark: If participants complete the "Recycling Challenge" within 6 months and accumulate 20 kilograms of recyclables in Task 1, you will have the opportunity to be invited to visit recycling facilities under the Environmental Protection Department (such as O PARK and Y PARK).
