The theme for JLS 2024 is peace. By using the Girl Guide & Girl Scout Leadership Model, the event will empower an international network of girls and young women to be empathetic global citizens who value different perspectives and celebrate diversity. Through a focus on building peace in their local communities, participants will lead together to create an equal, inclusive world where all girls can thrive.  

 

The JLS 2024 Journey and Time Commitment
JLS 2024 will be a 9-month commitment for participants, from April 2024 to December 2024:

  • April to June: Participants will be on Campfire (WAGGGS’ digital home) for 3 months of blended learning through online sessions, e-learning courses, global connections and patrol meetings. 
    Time commitment: Approximately 7 hours per month  
  • July to September: Participants will continue their blended learning and start their 100 Girls Projects.
    Time commitment: Approximately 10 hours per month  
  • 29 September to 5 October: Participants attend an in-person event at Nuestra Cabaña (Mexico), Kusafiri (Ghana) or Sangam (India). Full availability is required during this week.
  • October to December: Participants continue their 100 Girls Project and attend the JLS 2024 Closing Party in December.
    Time commitment: Approximately 10 hours per month dedicated to finishing their 100 Girls Projects before 31 December 2024.

 

Where will JLS 2024 Take Place?   
Events will take place at Nuestra Cabaña in Mexico, Kusafiri in Ghana and Sangam in India.  

 

Who can join JLS 2024? 

  • Active Girl Guiding Member aged from 18 to 30 years 
  • Interested in leadership development, international friendship and willingness to learn from a global programme
  • Able to understand and communicate well in one of the four official WAGGGS languages, Arabic, Spanish, French and/or English
  • Adaptable, culturally sensitive and open-minded
  • Willing to undertake new and challenging experiences
  • Mature and responsible global citizen
  • Able to access the internet  
  • Able to commit to the “JLS 2024 Journey and Time Commitment” as stated above, and be dedicated to completing the 100 Girls Project before 31 December 2024
  • Eager to support any projects/roles assigned by their own Member Organisation (i.e. HKGGA) after the seminar
  • Actively participate in sessions to share their seminar experience with other HKGGA Members, including but not limited to,  holding a sharing booth at HKGGA's " Let Us Share 2025" international sharing event

 

Event fee:

  • JLS Programme Fee – £500, approximately HKD$5,000 (HKGGA has subsidised half of the programme fee, which was originally £1,000. The fee covers online programming from April to December 2024, and food, accommodation and programme expenses at the allocated World Centre. Participants may apply for extra scholarship but is subject to WAGGGS' final decision) plus
  • Airfare – To be confirmed based on the allocated World Centre (HKGGA will also subsidise half of the airfare)
