In Loving Memory of Sir David Akers-Jones GBM KBE (1927-2019)

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing away of our beloved Hong Kong Girl Guides Adviser Sir David Akers-Jones GBM KBE on 30th September 2019. Tribute to Sir David for his contributions in Girl Guides development for 37 years. Sir David started as Honorary Vice President in 1982, followed by his role as Vice President and Executive Committee in 2002 and 2007 respectively, and continued to be our Adviser since 2013. Sir David was an influential figure in Hong Kong politics as well as the Guiding Movement, he was devoted to serving the Girl Guides by laying an important foundation for the establishment of the HKGGA new Headquarters and the Jockey Club Tung Chung Activity Centre.

 

In appreciation of his lifelong contribution to the Guiding Movement, Sir David was awarded with the “Asia Pacific Region Appreciation Award”, the highest award given by the Asia Pacific Region, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 2016. He will be remembered not only as the husband of our Former Chief Commissioner Lady Jane Akers-Jones, but as a long-time supporter and leading light of the Girl Guides. May his soul rests in eternal peace.
